Definition: Flavonoids are nutritional aromatic plant compounds that are considered to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Flavonoids contain water-soluble pigments that give attractive color to flower petals and fruit skins, which helps protect them from damage by microbes and insects.
Pronunciation: FLA-va-noid
Also Known As: bioflavonoid
Common Misspellings: flaveanoid, flavanoid
Examples:
Flavonoids can be found in fruits, vegetables, tea, and red wine. Because flavoniods can prevent cell damage, they can lower your risk of heart disease and cancer. Quercetin is one type of flavonoid.
