Definition: The substance in your red blood cells that carries oxygen from your lungs to your tissues. It contains iron, which turns your blood red when the iron is oxidized by the oxygen. Hemoglobin is composed of 6% heme and 94% globin.

Also Known As: hematinoglobulin, haemoglobin, Hb, HGB

Examples:
Your complete blood count (CBC) will include a number for hemoglobin.
