Mike Partain wants to hear from you, if you lived at
Camp LeJeuene any time from
1957 until 1987. Although Mike does not drink, smoke, or carry the BRCA genes, he was diagnosed with
male breast cancer in April 2007, had a
mastectomy and 6 months of chemo. Just having lived at Camp LeJeune from 1967-1968 put him at risk, because the water on base was contaminated with the
chemicals TCE (trichloroethylene) and PCE (perchloroethylene). Male breast cancer is not the only possible result of exposure to these chemicals, and many others who lived at Camp LeJeuene during those 30 years were affected in a variety of ways. Mike Partain and others have joined forces to find other people that may have health problems related to toxic water at Camp LeJeuene. "This issue represents an avenue for us as a society to finally identify a link between breast cancer (as well as several other cancers) and a particular substance we make and dispose of in the environment," wrote Mike. At their website,
The Few, The Proud, The Forgotten, you can read more about the history of water contamination at the base, and the consequences, as well as network with others who were exposed to these chemicals.

I was stationed at Lejeune from 82 to 89. Two years ago I was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Prior to that my ex wife had ovarian cancer have since lost touch with her. My tumor was malig. so I guess I am doing well compared to some of the others I have heard and read about. Case has been filed through my VA rep. Wish you all the best.
If you are the young man who is a graduate of Chiefland High School and a former student of mine, I would love to hear from you. Please get in touch. I would really like to know how you (and family) are doing. Hope you are well. Brenda
