Avocado Extract plus Tamoxifen More Effective

Monday June 11, 2007
Persin, a toxin extracted from avocados, can help Tamoxifen fit into estrogen receptors in breast cancer tumors. The research is still in the laboratory, being led by Caroline Roberts at Garvan Institute in Sydney, Australia. The persin works by increasing ceramide, a protein that prevents the growth of cells. Dr. Roberts said about the persin and tamoxifen combination, "It made the drug more effective and at lower doses so there would be fewer side-effects for women who used them together." Women with estrogen-receptor positive breast cancer take tamoxifen after primary treatments have been completed, to prevent recurrence.
