Definition: Quercetin is a flavonoid that occurs naturally in apples, red grapes, citrus, onions, garlic, parsley, and tea. It is an antioxidant, which also has antiviral, anti-inflammatory and antiallergenic properties.

Quercetin is a yellow pigment that lends its color to the foods in which it is present.

Pronunciation: KWER-si-tin
Also Known As: Meletin, quercetin chalcone
Common Misspellings: quertecin, quercitin, quersitin
Examples:
Foods with plenty of quercetin may help fight or prevent cancer, prostate infection, heart disease, and cataracts. The outermost layers of onions contain higher amounts of quercetin than do the successive inner layers.
