Definition: (noun) A cryoprobe is a surgical probe that is used to deliver freezing temperatures to abnormal or diseased tissues. Cryoprobes may be long, slender, and either pointed or blunt. Some cryoprobes are hollow, so a surgeon can send liquid nitrogen or argon gas directly into a tumor and thereby freeze it to death.

Examples:
A surgeon will use a cryoprobe during cryotherapy. A cryoprobe can be used on internal tissues, such as cryoablation of fibroadenomas, or on external tissues, such as skin abnormalities.
