Sarcoma - Definition of Sarcoma in Breast Cancer

Definition: A sarcoma is a type of cancerous tumor that is found in connective tissue. Sarcomas can originate in blood vessels, fat, muscle, bone, cartilage, or other connective tissue. If cancer arises from the epithelial tissue instead of connective tissue, then it is called carcinoma.
Pronunciation: sar-KO-muh
Common Misspellings: sercoma, sircoma
Examples:
Breast sarcomas are rare. There are several types of breast sarcomas, two of which are Phyllodes tumor, also called cystosarcoma phyllodes, and angiosarcoma.
