Definition: Part of the milk production (mammary) system within the breast. Fifteen to twenty lobes are arranged beneath the nipple and areola, like petals on a flower. Each lobe contains many smaller parts called lobules, and lobules hold bulbs that actually produce breast milk.
Pronunciation: lobz
Also Known As: mammary lobes
Examples:
Milk ducts carry breast milk from the lobes to the nipple, where the baby can be breastfed.
