Definition: Autologous reconstruction refers to plastic surgery that uses your own tissue to replace tissue that was lost to an injury or surgery. You are both the donor and the recipient of relocated tissue during autologous reconstruction.

Also Known As: tissue flap reconstruction

Examples:
Autologous breast reconstruction uses a flap of tissue from your tummy, buttocks, thighs to create a breast mound after a mastectomy. Some of these procedures are called TRAM flap, latissimus dorsi flap, DIEP flap and SGAP flap.
