The staging of your diagnosis is used to help decide on what treatment options are best for you. Other factors will be taken into consideration; your age, your general health, the results of blood tests, estrogen receptor status and other hormone tests. Your doctor may want to send you for other tests, in order to get the best picture of your overall health. Taking a bit of time to learn and understand what your diagnosis means will help you make good decisions for your long-term plans. Talk with your healthcare team fully, and ask what your options are.

Being an educated patient will help you manage your healthcare best. The doctors and nurses are working for you, and will use their knowledge and experience to give you their best opinion. But this is your body, your life, and if you are unsure what to do, consider getting a second opinion, or seek out resources in your community, such as a breast cancer support group.
