Dorothy Hamill, 51 and on tour with "Broadway on Ice," will take some time out of the tour to be treated for breast cancer. Hamill is having her treatment at Kimmel Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins, and her prognosis looks good. She hopes to catch up with the tour Jan. 16-17 when it stops in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. "She's been dealing with this for longer than she'd want anyone to know," said friend Dean Moye. "She's got a good support team around her. It's still very early in the process. They're still doing tests to determine what steps to take next."
Dorothy Hamill won the Olympic gold medal for figure skating in 1976 at age 19, and went pro with the Ice Capades. She has survived other challenges: two divorces, bankruptcy and battles with depression and osteoarthritis. Her autobiography is titled:
A Skating Life: My Story.
My humble prayers are with Dorothy Hamill for her full receovery. She deserves it as much as anyone ever has.
My heart goes out to a wonderful and beautiful lady of the ice. I remember Dorthy when she was a teenager living in the Wildfield apartment above me with her mother. My kids and I would see her every day going off to training at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs back in 1974. How interesting to know that both of us ended up battling breast cancer successfully. I wish her continued happiness and the best of luck in her battle with this disease.
I am in awe of Dorothy Hamill and her achievements. She has been an example to countless young ladies and has taught America about humility and courage and perserverance. Now she is going through another test. This time however, she has the support of a generation of people who grew up with her. She has my support and prayers that she will overcome her illness and contiue with her career.
I’ve been fighting/living with cancer since 1985. I’ve never taken chemo. Its by faith that has kept me alive. From 1985-1996 I had cancer eating the lining of my intestines with feses seeping into my cavity and the medical professionals never knew. All my test ie scans kept coming up negitive. Just three months ago I had surgery at Cliveland Clinic on a tumor that was never seen on my scans. The tumor weight 33grams, the insistion was 3 inches long. 100% of the tumors that were removed from me has all been malignent.Besides fighting this horrible disease, going through all my medical records and putting it into a 54 page noval sending it to President Obama,Govenor Chriss and Senator Argall, I wrote a book on my exsperiences with health care. My wishes before I go to join my heavenly father I would like to see Radiology discover a scan ie test that will be able to see any thing that does’nt belong in the human body. I feel in my heart that they could of seen MY cancer eating the linings of my intestines. My only commplaint is I cant get any financial help from any where because I won’t take chemo. Do you have any suggestions?
