Dorothy Hamill, 51 and on tour with "Broadway on Ice," will take some time out of the tour to be treated for breast cancer. Hamill is having her treatment at Kimmel Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins, and her prognosis looks good. She hopes to catch up with the tour Jan. 16-17 when it stops in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. "She's been dealing with this for longer than she'd want anyone to know," said friend Dean Moye. "She's got a good support team around her. It's still very early in the process. They're still doing tests to determine what steps to take next."
Dorothy Hamill won the Olympic gold medal for figure skating in 1976 at age 19, and went pro with the Ice Capades. She has survived other challenges: two divorces, bankruptcy and battles with depression and osteoarthritis. Her autobiography is titled:
A Skating Life: My Story.
Comments
My humble prayers are with Dorothy Hamill for her full receovery. She deserves it as much as anyone ever has.
