Lisa Moore Succumbs to Breast Cancer Recurrence

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Lisa Moore has passed away. She found a lump in her breast in January 1999, and went through the surgery, chemo, and all the side effects. On March 20, 2006, Lisa discovered that her breast cancer has returned and has spread. Her last words, to her husband, were, "I love you."
Lisa is a character in the comic strip Funky Winkerbean, a creation of Tom Batiuk, who is a prostate cancer survivor. The artist, Tom Batiuk, says response from readers has split evenly between positive and negative. In his blog, Batuik wrote, "For those of you who want a miracle, here's the real miracle in this story. At its core, this is a love story. Grief is the price we pay for love, and this is a story about how you do that."
