Breast Cancer Comics Reflects Real Experience

Breast cancer isn't funny, but it's showing up in the comics recently, in the strip Funky Winkerbean, and also at MyBreastCancerNetwork.com. Planned for monthly publication, the Breast Cancer Comics launched with a graphic novel-style depiction of a survivor on her 5th anniversary of completing treatment. The comics are accompanied by a short biography of the survivor herself, PJ Hamel. Artist Dash Shaw, winner of an Eisner Award, illustrates the series. Each month, a strip will feature the real-life story of breast cancer patients, survivors and their loved ones.
