Even women with a first baby after age 25 may benefit

Breastfeeding your baby, even if your first child is born after you are 25, will help lower your risk of developing breast cancer, according to a new study from Dr. Giske Ursin. The research findings were given at the annual meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research in Los Angeles. “As more women may choose to delay pregnancy until after 25, it is important to note that breastfeeding provides protection against both estrogen and progesterone receptor positive and negative tumors,” Ursin said. It has previously been accepted that delaying a first child increases the risk of breast cancer.
