Teen Wearing Breast Cancer Support T-shirt Sent Home From School

Friday March 30, 2007
Samantha Kuehn, whose mother just had a mastectomy, wore this t-shirt to high school.
Samantha Kuehn just wanted to show support for her mother, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in February, by wearing a t-shirt to high school. The principal at Oklahoma Union High School sent her home, saying, "It could be taken the wrong way." The shirt was purchased from "save the ta-tas" website, which donates 5 percent of each sale to breast cancer research. Samantha could not return to school until she changed her shirt. She said, “I was so surprised that my shirt would cause so much trouble,” said Samantha. “Other girls wear low-cut shirts or belly shirts and the boys wear shirts with put-downs on them and no one bothers them. My shirt isn’t really vulgar or offensive at all, and it means something to me."

That was wrong. You should have said something. That is wrong they made you change your shirt. I know you’re not me but I’d sell the shirts at school and have students buy them and wear them together.
