Goodbye, Molly Ivins
Thursday February 1, 2007
Journalist Molly Ivins passed away at her Austin home on Wednesday night. Ivins worked as a reporter for the New York Times from 1976 - 1980, then returned to Texas to become a columnist on politics, writing from a fearlessly liberal angle. Carlton Carl, who worked with Ivins while they were at the Houston Chronicle said, "She was always interested in the socially significant stories." Her nickname for George W. Bush was "Shrub." Molly Ivins fought inflammatory breast cancer for 7 years, and in 1999 she wrote, "I don’t need get-well cards, but I would like the beloved women readers to do something for me: Go. Get. The. D*mn. Mammogram. Done."
