Breast Cancer Vaccine Starts Clinical Trials

Thursday January 11, 2007
A new weapon for breast cancer treatment will start clinical trials in early 2007. It is a vaccine which will be added to the present arsenal of Herceptin and chemotherapy. This has been tested on animals, and in some cases of HER2 positive cancer, has almost completely eliminated the tumor. The vaccine is called MVA-BN(R)-HER2 and is produced by Bavarian Nordic biopharmaceutical company. The clinical studies will take place in the U.S. and Europe. Although the drug is called a vaccine, it is not a preventative treatment.
