Painless Mammogram Technology Being Tested
Monday September 25, 2006
SoftScan is the name of a new mammography tool which is being tested by Advanced Research Technologies (ART) Inc. of Canada. As the name implies, it doesn't squeeze your breasts during a diagnostic scan. The breasts will float in a warm solution while a laser scans the tissue, and makes an image which can show areas of greater circulation, a sign that cancer may be forming. ART worked with Dr. Christopher Comstock of University of California, San Diego on the new tool.

That sounds like a nice idea. Most of us hate mammograms because it often causes pain and discomfort. May be this new method would be the way of future.
It’s about time. Traditional mammograms are another example of gender inequity. Picture a guy submitting to this type of test on his genitals. Like, no way.
The question really is will this new technology mean less pain and better detection?? That’s the real crux of the matter: earlier detection. Nancy K., NY
Just had a mammogram & it will be my last – had it done 2X because couldn’t detect anything – so they squeezed so hard – tears were flowing & when tech released plastic, I passed out – she had to catch me. So what’s happening to this new tech?
