Sheryl Crow Urges Women to Demand Early Testing

Saturday August 19, 2006
Rock star and breast cancer survivor Sheryl Crow recently spoke out in favor of earlier biopsy in cases where a mammogram shows calcifications. Instead of accepting the advice of a health care professional to "wait 6 months and come back for another mammogram" Crow urges women to demand a biopsy as soon as calcifications show up on film. Calcifications can appear on mammograms around areas that may be precancerous or may indicate a tumor in a very early stage. She has changed her diet to eliminate junk food, and has kept her radiation tattoo as a reminder of her experience with breast cancer.

I went for an ultrasound today because my mammogram showed a dense area in my right breast. The radiologist said ther were some tiny spots of calcification, nothing to worry about, but her wants me to come back in 6 months for a check to see if ther are any changes. I am scared to death, he said that this happens to a lot of women my age (52) please advise me of what I should do.

I had a mammogram AUGUST/.2009, THEN, ONE WEEK LATER I RECEIVED A LETTER SAYING I HAD TO RETURN FOR ANOTHER MAMMOGRAM. ONE WEEK LATER, I WENT BACK AND THE RADIOLOGIST TOLD ME I HAD BREAST CALCIFICATION ON BOTH OF MY BREAST AND TOLD ME TO COME BACK IN SIX MONTHS. BUT AFTER READING SHERYL CROW’S STORY AND OTHER WOMEN WHO HAD BEEN TOLD THE SAME DIAGNOSIS, I IMMEDIATELY SCHEDULED FOR A BIOPSY, INSTEAD OF WAITING FOR 6 MONTHS

MY ADVICE TO OTHER WOMEN, IS’ TAKE CHARGE OF YOUR BREAST/ HEALTH’. SEEK A SECOND OPINION.
