Kylie Minogue Steps Out, After Breast Cancer
Australian singer Kylie Minogue, 38, stepped out with fellow pop star Elton John at the White Tie and Tiara summer party. Minogue, who is recovering from treatment for early stage breast cancer, called this occasion her "official coming out". She joined with other entertainers in raising funds for Elton John's AIDs charity.
Minogue, a 2004 Grammy winner, was traveling with her "Showgirl" tour when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in May of 2005. She was 36 at the time of her diagnosis, and the news gave her a terrible shock. Remembering how she felt when her doctors told her, she said that she was silent for a moment, and then said, "No, I'm getting on a plane." Her family, who were with her to offer support, said, "No, you're not, sit down."
Her breast cancer was treated by surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation, all of which can help prevent recurrence and spread of this disease. Friends at the White Tie and Tiara remarked at how well the star looked, and how quickly she was bouncing back from treatment.
