American Latinas and Breast Cancer Rates
Early results from a study of breast cancer in Hispanic/Latina populations suggests a higher risk of disease may exist for those Latinas born in the U.S. than in those born in Mexico who are now living in the US. American Latinas may also be getting breast cancer at a younger age than American-born Caucasian women.
This year's annual Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Forum focused on “Challenges and Solutions in Screening and Treating the Underserved.” This study which was funded by the Avon Foundation, was done by researchers from the Arizona Cancer Center and the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. Race is one of the risk factors for breast cancer.
