Grammy Winner Soraya Succumbs to Breast Cancer
Soraya, Latin singer and songwriter, creator of 6 albums, spokeswoman for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, passed away on Wednesday after a relapse of breast cancer. She was 37 years old, and had been diagnosed and treated for stage 3 breast cancer in 2000. Soraya was in a hospital in Miami when she died.
She was born in Columbia and grew up in New Jersey, recorded in both Spanish and English. Although her mother, aunt, and grandmother had died of breast cancer, and she had taken time out of her career to take care of them, cancer was not her focus. "She was just so driven by life,'' mourned Sebastian Krys, the producer of her album El Otro Lado de Mi (My Other Side). "She used every opportunity she had to turn her forum into helping others."

How sad that a woman so young, talented, so vibrant should be taken so soon. But Soraya knew how to live! She lived her life fully. She will be missed.
